Washington Post Republican Convention Poll, August 1992

This poll, taken during the 1992 Republican National Convention, surveyed respondents about their current voting intentions in the presidential race involving George Bush and Bill Clinton, asked how the presence of Ross Perot would have influenced voting intentions and whether Perot should have returned to the presidential race, and solicited respondents' impressions of all the presidential and vice-presidential candidates and their wives. Those surveyed also indicated whether Bush or Clinton could better deal with problems such as the breakdown of family values, foreign affairs, and holding taxes down, if either candidate could be trusted in a crisis, and whether we needed to elect a president that could set the nation in a new direction, or keep the country moving in the direction that Bush had been taking it. Questions pertaining solely to President Bush focused on the amount of time he spent on foreign versus domestic problems, his ability to deal with the big issues facing the country, where he planned to lead the nation in the next four years, his understanding of the problems of the average American, whether he was to blame for the country's economic problems, and whether he cared equally about serving all people. Additional questions concerned the influence of the Republican Convention on respondents' presidential votes, and whether respondents were inclined to vote to reelect their representatives in Congress. Background information on respondents includes party affiliation, education, age, race and Hispanic origin, household income, and sex.
