Persistence of ecosystems 2024 data package

This is the data package for the **persistence of ecosystems** indicator, supporting the reports **NSW biodiversity outlook report 2024** and **Persistence of ecosystems: Report card supplementing the NSW biodiversity outlook report 2024**. This data package provides underlying data for the indicator **persistence of ecosystems (vascular plants)**, reporting on results for 2007, 2013, 2017 and 2020.\r\n\r\n*This data package is a snapshot of the data used to calculate indicators as reported in the NSW biodiversity outlook report 2024 and supporting report cards.*\r\n\r\n## Persistence of ecosystems indicator\r\nThe **persistence of ecosystems** indicator reports the percentage of original ecosystem diversity that is likely to persist into the future. Ecosystem diversity is lost due to declining ecological condition and ongoing habitat fragmentation. A modelled distribution of vascular plant ecosystems that originally occurred across the state is assessed against habitat remaining.\r\n## NSW Biodiversity Indicator Program\r\nThe **Biodiversity Indicator Program** reports on the state and trends over time of biodiversity and ecological integrity in New South Wales. The program was established by the *Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016*. We have developed a framework of indicators to help scientists, managers and policy-makers understand the current state of biodiversity, how it has changed from the past, and how it is likely to change in the future. \r\n## NSW biodiversity outlook report\r\nThe **NSW biodiversity outlook report** is a summary of the state of biodiversity and ecological integrity in New South Wales. It is based on rigorous science and has been peer reviewed by recognised experts. New reports are published from time to time as data become available and are analysed. Each report covers the set of indicators from the framework that have been developed and are ready for publication at that time.\r\n## Report cards\r\nReport cards are stand-alone documents that provide more detailed indicator results and commentary than the biodiversity outlook report.\r\n## Implementation reports\r\nImplementation reports describe in technical detail how indicators are calculated. In combination with the corresponding data package, indicator results can be replicated by anyone with sufficient technical expertise.\r\n## Data packages\r\nEach data package consists of tabular results and raw output such as spatial layers. Data packages provide supporting information for the NSW biodiversity outlook report and associated report cards. Data packages reflect results as presented in their corresponding report card and outlook report, creating an archive of the indicator results at the time of analysis.
