The series consists of condolence books for the recording of public tributes at State Funerals and Memorial Services.The Government condolence books were set up in locations where members of the public could record their expressions of sympathy and remembrance after a tragic event or the death of a person who had made a significant contribution to society.The condolence books were created to commemorate NSW  residents and local events as well as international figures.The series includes condolence books for the victims of the Bali Bombings, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother, Kevin Charles ‘Pro’ Hart, Nancy-Bird Walton, Charles ‘Chicka’ Stanley Dixon and Nelson Mandela.The books were placed in prominent public places around New South Wales such as Government House, the Art Gallery of New South Wales and Sydney Town Hall as well as regional locations such as Armidale Town Hall and Broken Hill Entertainment Centre.In recent years online condolence books such as the Nelson Mandela Memorial Service have been made available on the New South Wales Government website (nsw.gov.au).The condolence books mainly consist of bound, hard-cover volumes inscribed with the State Funeral or Memorial Service name, date and venue.
