Double Challenge: COVID-19 meets the Influenza - First case report in Colombia

Coinfection of SARS-CoV-2 and Influenza virus (Flurona) is rare, a literature search was carried out in the databases PubMed, Scopus, as well as Google Scholar, in Spanish and English, and it was found that no cases have been previously reported in Colombia. Although they have a similar mode of transmission and clinical presentation, there are important differences in treatment. The aggressiveness of the two viruses can cause respiratory failure and death. The case of an 83-year-old male subject with cardiovascular comorbidities is presented, who required management in the intensive care unit for congestive heart failure and severe aortic valve disease, during hospitalization he presented respiratory failure in which Flurona was documented. He received treatment with Oseltamivir, oxygen support and therapeutic thoracentesis. It was decided to perform transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) and he died during the procedure. In conclusion, the management of patients with Flurona represents a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge, so a multidisciplinary approach is imperative to obtain better clinical results.
