VPRS 12345 Register of Business Names

This series was created to allocate sequential numbers for the registration of business names as required under the provisions of Business Names Acts from 1926. Entries in this series record the date of registration and business name and number allocated.Until January 1927, business names were registered in a sequence of bound registers (see VPRS 12342). In 1927 the bound registers were replaced by a card register arranged alphabetically by the business name (see VPRS 12343). This series was thus necessary in order to determine the next number to be allocated.The last volume in archival custody dates from 1975. It is possible that other volume(s) were created until the early 1980's when a computerised system of registering business names was introduced.
