资源简介:
The Graduate Student Council of the Natural Hazards Engineering Research Infrastructure (NHERI GSC) has been established by NHERI and funded by the National Science Foundation of the United States. The mission of NHERI GSC is to function as a centralized hub that provides opportunities for students to develop leadership and interpersonal skills, gain practical experience, and receive exposure within the natural hazards research fields. NHERI GSC is run by volunteer graduate students from around the world, representing a variety of universities and institutes.
The second annual NHERI GSC Mini-Conference was held on May 31, 2024. The conference featured paper and poster presentations by students and researchers, facilitating the sharing of ideas and research, and providing feedback and recommendations for further development and improvement in the field of natural hazards.
This year, the conference focused on several critical themes, including Interdisciplinary Approaches to Disaster Resilience and Sustainability, Risk Assessment and Management in Diverse Environments, Innovations in Hazard Analysis and Structural Engineering, Sustainable Development and Environmental Impact Mitigation, Geotechnical and Climatic Studies for Hazard Mitigation, and Urban Planning and Flood Management. These topics are vital as we work towards innovative solutions to the challenges posed by natural hazards.
The conference accepted a total of 21 abstracts: four from the paper sessions and 17 from the poster sessions. Of these, seven were submitted by the Inter- and Intra-Disciplinary Research Challenge Groups, established by the conference organizing committee and composed of graduate students from diverse backgrounds and universities. For many participants, the 2024 NHERI Mini-Conference marked their first experience presenting at a conference and their first publication in a book of proceedings.
The primary aim of the annual NHERI GSC Mini-Conference is to provide a platform for graduate students to establish collaborations, share their research, and receive feedback and recommendations from the natural hazards community. By doing so, the conference helps shape the future of their research and fosters a collaborative environment run by graduate students.
The abstracts from the conference are provided below.
