Share of Italians who have not participated in cultural activities 2021-2022, by age

A study published in December 2023 looked at the share of Italians who did not take part in any recreational or cultural activities in the previous 12 months. According to the analysis, the nonparticipation rate declined significantly in 2022 compared to the previous year, when participation was hit by the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. For instance, roughly 21 percent of male or female Italians aged 25 to 34 did not participate in any recreational or cultural activities in 2022, declining from 37.5 percent for male respondents and 33.2 percent for female respondents in 2021.
