The overall aim of this research was to undertake an assessment of bacterial and fungal diversity in soils treated with HF fluid by extracting and sequencing DNA from soil samples for bacterial and fungal components. Next generation Illumina sequencing was used to yield metagenomic information about the overall microbial communities. The results will provide insights into how fracking fluid may change the living components ,and therefore affect the functioning of the soil and the possible effect this may have on microbial diversity.
