The objectives of the leg were to collect cores of late pleistocene sediments along two north-south transects crossing the equatorial current system of the pacific, to collect a depth transect of cores in the eastern equatorial pacific pacific, and to collect seabeam and single-channel seismic reflection data at locations which are being considered as possible drill-sites by the ocean drilling program.
