Results of continuous-flow core incubations to determine nitrogen-removal services before and after the creation of a living shoreline at Sherman Creek Park (New York, NY, USA). Data include surveys pre-restoration (2019), post-restoration (2020), and post installation of enhanced goose-exclusion fencing (2023). The restored marsh is compared to existing (remnant) marsh, rip rap, and mudflat habitats at the same location. Variables measured include dissolved gases (N<sub>2</sub>, O<sub>2</sub>), dissolved nutrients (NO<sub>3</sub><sup>-</sup> + NO<sub>2</sub><sup>-</sup>, NO<sub>2</sub><sup>-</sup>, NH<sub>3</sub>, and PO<sub>4</sub><sup>3-</sup>), sediment characteristics (bulk density, moisture content, organic content, porosity, percent carbon, percent nitrogen, and C:N ratio), and vegetation characteristics (above- and belowground biomass, stem height, stem density, stem diameter, leaf width, aboveground C and N, belowground C and N).For more information on survey methods and flux calculations, download and view metadata html file. Complete flux calculations performed in the R programming language, from instrument output to final fluxes, are detailed. The files in the "data_final" folder are processed and ready for use. (As noted in the metadata, 48 h gas fluxes from 2023 should be interpreted with caution because flow rates became variable prior to 48 h sample collection.) Raw data used in calculations are available in the "raw_data_20XX" folders for each of the three sampling years.
