Three sediment samples were selected for preliminary pollen, phytolith, and diatom analysis from a 885 cm-deep core collected from glacial maximum-age sediments deposited in Devil’s Lake in the Baraboo Hills of south-central Wisconsin. This analysis was designed to assess the quality of the proxy data before the continuation of analyses of additional samples. Upon completion of this analysis and based on recovery of significant quantities of microscopic charcoal in the pollen samples, four additional samples were submitted for microscopic charcoal recovery and possible AMS radiocarbon dating.
