Disease born from microbial infections could be quite harmful for human, sometimes leading to death. One of the diseases is diphtheria, which caused by the toxigenic Corynebacterium diphtheriae. Knowledge of bacterial toxin and other virulence factors are important for the handling of the disease and preventive measurements. The use of Next-Generation Sequencing technology to understand the genetic sequences of the toxin and other virulence factors is quite promising to accelerate the handling of the bacteria. Therefore, the present study was carried out to determine the genome of C. diphtheriae to provide essential information to study their toxin and other virulence factors, using the Illumina MiSeq platform.
