A data set regarding the development and application of a PCR primer set enabling high-throughput amplicon sequencing of Streptomyces rpoB gene sequences from soil. Specifically, the utility of the primer set was demonstrated on soils collected in New Zealand in April 2012. Also included are bacterial 16S rRNA gene sequences amplified from the same soils for comparison.
