This series is a petition presented to the Service State Government in September 1884 by representatives of several Boroughs and Shires in Gippsland. The petition urges the Government to proceed with the construction of a proposed canal from the Thomson River, which would bring shipping from the Gippsland Lakes into the town of Sale, and improve access to metropolitan markets.The petition was signed by 1164 residents: it records their signatures, places of residence and occupations.
