Comparative Dataset on Institutional Functions of Social Policy Across Welfare Regimes (2007–2020)

This repository contains the processed comparative dataset supporting the research article “Do Welfare Regimes Explain All Dimensions of Social Policy Equally? Differential Explanatory Power Across Institutional Functions (2007–2020).” The dataset was developed to examine the differential explanatory power of welfare regime theory across four institutional functions of social policy: governance, social expenditure, direct taxation, and social security. It includes annual country-level observations for 24 countries covering the period 2007–2020, grouped according to welfare regime classifications used in comparative social policy research. The repository contains: The processed analytical dataset used in the statistical analyses. A comprehensive codebook describing all variables. A README file documenting the dataset structure and sources. A citation guide. Documentation on data availability and repository organization. The data were compiled from publicly available international sources, including the World Bank Worldwide Governance Indicators (WGI), the OECD Social Expenditure Database (SOCX), the ICTD Government Revenue Dataset, the ILO Social Security Inquiry, and other public international databases described in the accompanying manuscript. The original data were harmonized, normalized, and integrated to construct the analytical dataset employed in the study. This repository is intended to promote transparency, reproducibility, and the reuse of comparative social policy data. The processed dataset may be freely used for research purposes under the terms of the selected license.
