Validated acoustic dataset for North Atlantic right whales in Cape Cod Bay

This repository provides a 7-year (2007–2013) validated passive acoustic monitoring dataset from Cape Cod Bay, Massachusetts for the North Atlantic right whale (Eubalaena glacialis). Acoustic data were collected using a 10-element array of Marine Autonomous Recording Units (MARUs) and processed with the PAMGuard software suite to extract right whale upcalls, 2D simplex localizations, and ambient noise statistics. This repository provides: The Tethys database for the full 2007–2013 Cape Cod Bay archive, containing all PAMGuard-derived detections, localizations, and filtered noise measurements. This database must be downloaded from this repository and loaded into a local Tethys installation to query (free software; see installation instructions below). A 17-day preliminary/trial subset (2008–2009) of raw multichannel audio, PAMGuard configuration files, and fully processed detection, localization, and noise outputs, provided for reproducibility, workflow benchmarking, and method development. Supporting files: a multi-year (2007–2018) manual verification/validation dataset, and an R Markdown script (CCB_Tethys.rmd) with example queries for accessing detections, localizations, and noise data from the Tethys database. Full contents, file formats, and folder structure are described in the accompanying README. Accessing the Tethys data: Install the free Tethys client (https://tethys.sdsu.edu/install/), download and extract "Full_Dataset.zip" to reveal the "CapeCodBay" database folder, and point your local Tethys installation at it. Full instructions are available at https://tethys.sdsu.edu/documentation_site/ and in the README. Installing this database will not overwrite or affect any existing Tethys databases on your system. This validated dataset supports studies of North Atlantic right whale vocal behavior, habitat use, and population-level modeling, including within frameworks such as PCoMS.
