In the current study, two Cu(II)-based coordination polymers with the molecular formula of {[Cu3(μ3-cpia)2(phen)3]·10H2O}n (1, H3cpia = 4-(6-carboxy-pyridin-3-yl)-isophthalic acid, phen = 1,10-phenanthroline) and {[Cu4(μ4-cpia)2(μ-OH)2(μ-4,4′-bipy)2]·4,4′-bipy·2H2O}n (2, 4,4′-bipy = 4,4′-bipyridine) have been successfully prepared by reaction of Cu(NO3)2·3H2O with the H3cpia in the presence of different N-donor ligands (phen for 1 and 4,4′-bipy for 2). Furthermore, to evaluate the protective effect of compounds 1 and 2 against neonatal sepsis, the following experiments were conducted. First, the content of the C-reactive protein in the serum of the newborns after compound 1 or 2 treatment was measured with the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay detection kit at indicated time. Next, the inflammatory level during neonatal sepsis was detected by measuring the relative expression level of the nf-κb and tnf-α with real time RT-PCR.
