We used multilocus genetic data to evaluate whether nearly two centuries of systematic study has increased the taxonomic accuracy of the geographically variable coast horned lizard (Phrynosoma coronatum). Taxonomic accuracy should increase as new specimens and data accumulate yet the conventional wisdom underlying this assumption remains untested. The goal of our study was to rank 15 species delimitation models (SDMs) for coast horned lizards using coalescent analyses of nuclear data (gene sequences and SNPs) in a Bayesian model comparison framework.
