Urbanisation, Risks and Vulnerabilities, and Urban Resilience: A Study of the Journey of Resilience Building of Kathmandu

This thesis is a contextual analysis of urbanisation, risks and vulnerabilities, and resilience building in the case of Kathmandu. There were 4 key areas of investigation: study of Kathmandu as a city; the urbanization of Kathmandu and its impact on risks and vulnerabilities; resilience building in Kathmandu; and the journey of Kathmandu to resilience building. The study shows that resilience-building effort must be reflective of the unique socio-economic and political processes of the particular city and country, and built on their strengths, for example, being a city of culture and heritage in the case of Kathmandu.
