The Research Background This work is located within the history of the Monochrome within the revitalisation of Non Objective practice ... it addresses issues of time through painting,photography, performance and installation... through the construction of composite works and interventions. These works built upon previous research evidenced in exhibitions at The NGV and Heide Museum of Modern Art . Research was undertaken during a residency at The Centre for Drawing Research at University of The University of The Arts London in 2010-11 and developed in Melbourne in 2011 A selection of this work was exhibited in a leading Australian/German Gallery a member AcGA, German Art Galleries Association. The work and gallery has been peer reviewed by the international selection committee of HK art fair now with Art Basel the major International art fair in Asia and one of the major venues for contemporary art in the world The Research significance The work adds to the knowledge of contemplative abstract practice in Australia and Asia It employs a composite practice to address materiality,concepts and experiences of time ( duration) . This selection is object based works that bring together diverse visual codes and media to engage with issues of matter , value, kowing, feeling and being demonstrating how the temporality of installation practice can inform painting and photography. Research Contribution It employs the tradition of Non objective painting not as a pure end in itself but as a part of a network of readings as such it extends painting beyond the object to pictorialise space. It is amongst the first generation of Australian abstraction that locates itself between the tradition of Western abstraction and Non Objective art and the monochrome painting of Korea (Dansaekhwa ) and the artworks of the Japanese Mono Ha.
