C4 photosynthesis is a remarkable complex trait that plays a critical role in the resilience of grasses during inhabiting harsh environments. Although the subfamily Chloridoideae is the oldest and largest C4 lineage, less has been discovered on the diel expressions and regulations of C4 photosynthesis. Here, we analyzed the time-indicating genes in a widely planted turfgrass Zoysia matrella, broadly known as stress adaptation, water efficiency, and C4 photosynthesis of the NAD-malic enzyme (NAD-ME) subtype.
