Physically Handicapped Persons, 1994-1995

The purpose of this survey is to obtain information for statistical and scientific assessment of the living conditions of the physically handicapped regarding a number of central aspects. The survey deals with integration in society and examines barriers to integration. The barriers are looked for not only in the individual but also in society's reaction to the handicaps of the individual. # The survey consists of two phases. The purpose of the first phase, which is carried out as interviews with approx. 25,000 persons in 1994, is to determine whether the person has physical handicaps. In the second phase, those who in the first phase stated that they were physically handicapped will be re-interviewed in 1995. # #The following information is included from the interviews: #Phase 1: #Background information: #- Sex. #- Age. #- Household composition. #- Education. #- Occupation. #- Trade. #- Maintenance basis. #Screening information for phase 2: #- Functional ability and health. #Phase 2: #Background information: #- Current information corresponding to phase 1. #- Sources of income and size of income. #- Arrangement of the dwelling and entrance to the dwelling. #Functional ability and health: #- Current information corresponding to phase 1. #- Diagnoses. #- Use of technical aids. #- Background of the handicap: duration and development. #- Self-confidence/experienced influence on own situation. #Relation to the labour market: #- Present and former attachment, working hours, job history # (periods of illness and unemployment). #- Rehabilitation process. #- Working environment: interior arrangement of the place of work, # experiences regarding attitudes of employer and colleagues. #- Own attitudes to employment. #Relation to the public systems: #- Forms of help/service received. #- Experiences of and degree of satisfaction with the public # service. #Social contacts: #- Participation in social life, including in handicap # organizations
