Photograph of Hattie, Etta and Sam McDaniel disembarking from a railroad car. The three actors appeared in hundreds of films in the 1930s. Hattie McDaniel (right) is the best known of the three; she was the first African-American to receive the Academy Award when she won Best Supporting Actress honors for portraying Mammy in "Gone with the Wind." Her sister, Etta, left, and brother, Sam, center, also appeared in numerous Hollywood films.
