Extending rDNA sequencing to 16S meta-epigenetics We described a simple investigation method of 5-methylcytosine residues in bacterial 16S rDNA region from clinical samples or flora. It is clear that the sequence information of the 16S rDNA region is powerful information for the identification of bacterial species, as its analysis has been widely adopted in clinical tests and biome analysis. If we can add DNA methylation analysis on the conventional 16S rDNA analysis, we will be able to obtain DNA methylation information by targeting on regions that hold information that can efficiently lead to the identification of bacterial species.
