This is the number of pupils with one or more fixed period suspensions at state-funded secondary schools. A fixed period exclusion refers to a pupil who is excluded from a school but remains on the register of that school because they are expected to return when the exclusion period is completed. The head teacher of a school can exclude a pupil on disciplinary grounds only.
