Utah Vista Ballot Areas

In response to the Help America Vote Act (HAVA) passed in 2002, the Office of Elections in the Lieutenant Governor's, designed, developed and implemented a statewide database, the Utah Voter Information and State Tracking Application (VISTA) In 2011, the VISTA project began closely integrating county-level GIS mapping data representing the precinct and subprecinct boundaries that define the ballot areas for the state. This dataset is the digital map dataset that the VISTA project is actively using for their GIS integration. VISTA Precincts and Sub Precincts are tracked using a unique identifier of up to 10 characters to represent a specific balloting unit (wherein all voters in a specified precinct receive the same ballot). Precincts are identified using up to 6 characters; example: SJ001A or 007. Sub Precincts are identified using a 6 character precinct identifier, a “:” character, and up to 4 characters for the Sub Precinct identifier; example: SJ0003:SW2.
