The diversity of rumen bacteria that form close associations with ingested plant material, in dairy cows grazing pasture were monitored over the course of a year. We followed the community composition using high throughput pyrosequencing of bacterial 16S rRNA genes amplified from rumen contents of four cows in five consecutive seasons (autumn, winter, spring, summer and autumn).
