The strain was discovered during a 2022 project funded by the Expedition and Exploration Fund from BRIN (No. 2860/II.7/HK.01.00/8/2022), which aimed to investigate the underexplored bacterial diversity in the sediments of Kakaban Saline Lake, East Kalimantan, Indonesia. Kakaban Lake is an anchialine lagoon situated within a raised atoll. The strain was found to produce carotenoids with antioxidant activity and will be further analyzed both at the metabolic and the genomic level.
