Data from Archaeological Mitigation Work at Torr View Forge, Kingsbridge, Devon, 2020

This collection comprises image, text, spreadsheet and GIS data from archaeological mitigation work at Torr View Forge, Kingsbridge, Devon undertaken by Archaeology England Limited over a period of 6 days during June and July 2020. A single archaeological feature was recorded comprising a large oval or sub-rectangular pit with evidence for in-situ burning at its base. No archaeological finds were recovered from the fills of the pit, but a charcoal rich layer near the base of the pit has been radiocarbon dated to AD415-556. The pit has been interpreted as a grain drying pit/corn dryer based on the large quantities of charred cereal grain recovered from environmental samples taken from its lower fills.
