The runs consist of twelve selected animals belonging to twelve different breeds in order to represent sheep diversity, mainly in France.

The selection of 12 breeds (Basco-Béarnaise, Black Belly, Blanche du Massif Central, Corse, Ile de France, Lacaune, Manech Tête Noire, Noire du Velay, Ouessant, Rambouillet, Vendéen, Soay) was mainly based on Rochus et al., 2018 publication (https://doi.org/10.1186/s12864-018-4447-x). Both meat and dairy breeds were chosen, together with Black Belly, Ouessant and Soay, representative of breeds from various types of islands (West Indies, Ouessant and Soay). High molecular weight DNA was extracted from blood and submitted to whole genome sequencing. Long-read sequencing technologies were used in order to genearate assemblies. CCS, Pacbio high quality reads + Parental Illumina for haplotyping were used for the Lacaune breed. For the other breeds, CLR = Pacbio raw reads or ONT data were generated.
