Whole-Genome Sequencing of Acinetobacter baumannii from Medan, North Sumatra, Indonesia

Acinetobacter baumannii remained is one of the important pathogens in clinical settings, due to its prevalence and capabilities such as resistance to several or perhaps, all antibiotics. Resistance to antibiotics is caused by either intrinsic or extrinsic factors and both of this factor are related to its genes. The high level of resistance even gives rise to Carbapenem Resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (CRAB), one of the last-line of antibiotics used for therapy. Therefore, Whole-Genome Sequencing (WGS) is performed on A. baumannii collected from Murni Teguh Memorial Hospital, Medan, North Sumatra, Indonesia due to its prevalence in this hospital is already concerning. Furthermore, data related to this bacteria in North Sumatra or even in Indonesia is still limited. The use of WGS is expected to be able to reveal the genotypic aspect of this bacteria in developing resistance to antibiotics.
