资源简介:

The implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 has foregrounded competency-based education as a strategic response to limitations inherent in content-intensive curricula. This research-based article examines the pedagogical and assessment-oriented implications of prioritizing competency development over content coverage within the Indian education system. Drawing upon recent classroom-based studies, curriculum reform initiatives, and outcome-oriented educational frameworks, the study explores how competency-focused instruction influences learner engagement, conceptual retention, and higher-order cognitive skills. The analysis indicates that reduced curricular load combined with experiential and inquiry-driven pedagogies enhances students' ability to transfer knowledge across contexts. Furthermore, competency-aligned formative assessment practices are found to support continuous learning and self-regulation among learners. The article also identifies systemic challenges, including teacher readiness, institutional constraints, and assessment alignment, which affect effective implementation. The findings suggest that a deliberate shift toward competency-driven curriculum design can foster deeper learning, adaptability, and learner autonomy, thereby aligning educational outcomes with the evolving demands of the knowledge society envisioned by NEP 2020.
