This repository contains data and codes used to generate the results described in the manuscript by F. Pintori and E. Serpelloni “Drought-induced vertical displacements and water loss in the Po river basin (Northern Italy) from GNSS measurements”.<b>gnss2ewh_main.m</b> is a code part of the GNSS2TWS software, available in https://github.com/jzshhh/gnss2tws, which is here slightly modified. <b>checkerboard_test.m</b>, is also a function of GNSS2TWS, which is here modified.<b>display_results.m</b> is a code that allows us to generate most of the manuscript figures or the input data for the figures. This code reads the following files:<b>spei12_PoBasin025.nc</b>: subset of SPEI-12 data downloaded from https://spei.csic.es/map/maps.html#months=1#month=0#year=2023GNSS;<b>CME2_PoBasin_summer.txt</b>: result of the stacking on the piecewise vertical trends of all the stations inside the Po river basin;<b>Po_level_updated23_L1tool_output_2023.txt</b>:<b> </b>Po river level measurements provided by the Regional Agency for Environmental Protection of Veneto region (ARPAV; https://wwwold.arpa.veneto.it/arpavinforma/bollettini/dati-storici). The second column represents the original data; third, fourth and fifth columns show the outputs of the trend filtering using the L1tool software (https://github.com/wudingcheng/l1tool); <b>pca_decomposition1.mat</b>: the results of the GNSS2TWS software;<b>Po_River_Basin_Italy2column.gpx</b>: the polygon of the Po river basin.Furthermore, this code reads four .mat files containing the results of the PCA decomposition on GRACE and GLDAS data: <b>all1_basic_decomp_empca_SVD_S&amp;J_b_alpha_0=0_c_alpha_0=1000_b_0=1000_c_0=0_CSR.mat</b>;<b>all1_basic_decomp_empca_SVD_S&amp;J_b_alpha_0=0_c_alpha_0=1000_b_0=1000_c_0=0_GLDAS.mat</b>;<b>all1_basic_decomp_empca_SVD_S&amp;J_b_alpha_0=0_c_alpha_0=1000_b_0=1000_c_0=0_GRAVIS_025.mat</b>;<b>all1_basic_decomp_empca_SVD_S&amp;J_b_alpha_0=0_c_alpha_0=1000_b_0=1000_c_0=0_JPL_025.mat.</b>The original data analyzed with the PCA are: <b>GLDAS_NOAH025_until202303daily.nc4</b>: subset of GLDAS data downloaded from https://disc.gsfc.nasa.gov/datasets/GLDAS_NOAH025_3H_2.1/summary?keywords=GLDAS.<b>CSR_GRACE_6,13,43,47.nc</b>: subset of GRACE data provided by the Center for Space Research of the University of Texas (CSR), downloaded from http://www2.csr.utexas.edu/grace (https://doi.org/10.15781/cgq9-nh24)<b>GRCTellus.JPL.200204_202305.GLO.RL06.1M.MSCNv03_PoBasin_0.25.nc</b>: subset of GRACE/GRACE-FO Mascon data provided by the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) are available at http://grace.jpl.nasa.gov.<b>GRAVIS-3_PoBasin_0.25.nc</b>: subset of GRACE data provided by the Gravity Information Service of the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GRAVIS),available at https://doi.org/10.5880/COST-G.GRAVIS_01_L3_TWS.<b>filter_NTAL.m</b> is a code that uses the data <b>ESMGFZ_NTAL_cf_v1.0_2010_202307_daily_full.nc</b> (downloaded from http://rz-vm115.gfz-potsdam.de:8080/repository/entry/show? ) to remove the effect of the atmospheric loading from the GNSS time series.<b>gnss_list.txt</b> is the list of all the GNSS stations.<b>PO_basin_buffer_1.0.dat </b>is the polygon of the Po river basin extended by 1°.<b>spei12_full.txt </b>contains longitude, latitude and SPEI-12 values associated with August 2022.
