Vitellogenin (vg) expression in the burying beetle Nicrophorus orbicollis

Here, we quantified the expression of vg1, vg2, and the vitellogenin receptor (vgr) in female head tissues during reproductive maturation and parental care. Both vg genes increased during reproductive maturation, declined during early parental care, and recovered by late parental care, closely mirroring the pattern previously described in the fat body. In contrast, vgr expression remained relatively stable across reproductive and behavioral states.
