OECD mineral rents

Understanding the policy implications of the interaction between mineral rents, exports of ICT goods, and environmental innovation is particularly critical for less developed OECD countries, as it informs strategic decisions for sustainable economic growth and technological advancement. This study investigates the role of ICT goods exports and environmental technology innovation on mineral rents based on panel data from 23 OECD countries over the period 2000-2020. Using random-effects Generalized Least Squares (GLS) regression, with robustness checks through FGLS, PCSE, and DKSE, the research finds that ICT goods exports significantly increase mineral rents, while environmental technology innovation has a negative effect. This selection of methods ensures robust and comprehensive analysis, catering to the specific dynamics of the data set and the intricate relationships between the variables in question. The study's findings are particularly significant, suggesting that even small changes in ICT goods exports and environmental innovation can have measurable impacts on the economic dynamics of mineral rents While the study focuses on OECD countries, its findings may have broader implications, warranting further research to assess applicability in non-OECD contexts. The study also offers specific policy recommendations, such as incentivizing ICT sector growth while mitigating potential adverse effects on mineral-reliant economies. The study concludes with policy recommendations based on these findings.
