资源简介:
Mining operations, workers and related transportation are all vulnerable to climate risks. The Mining Index for Natural Extreme (MINE) combines three relevant climate variables into a single index which can be used to rank mining locations by potential risk. Climate variables aggregated into the index are:
Extreme Rainfall. Intense rainfall can lead to flooding of mining areas as well as landslides, which can endanger workers and interrupt operations and transportation.
Drought. Mining operations for many commodities require large volumes of water. Drought can be used as a proxy for local water scarcity. When water is not available locally, mines may have to transport water in from more remote locations or resort to more expensive methods to obtain it.
Heat. Temperature and humidity can impact the productivity of workers without the means to remain cool during activity.
The index is comprised of a ranked and weighted average of the three climate variables.
The files in this repository are described in the documentation file `MINE_documentation.doc`. This also provides details of the methodology. The data was generated using the code in release v1.0.0 of the MINE Github repository.
