The aim of the study was to evaluate the accuracy of a car-based survey method for mapping L. polyphyllus (lupines) in road verges and how the physical characteristics of the stands influenced their detection from the car.The file contains data on 223 lupine stands detected along verification stretches examined in four study areas (Heby, Enköping, Uppsala, and Funäsdalen) in the publication: Dániel-Ferreira et al. 2026. Evaluation of a car-based method for mapping the invasive Lupinus polyphyllus Lindl in road infrastructure. Scientific Reports. Meta-data: Year: Year in which the study area was surveyed for lupines. Study area: Area in which the lupine stands were found. Stand length (m): Length of the lupine stand in meters. The length was extracted from the polyline created in the Field Maps app. Width (m): Width of the lupine stand in meters. The width was an approximation as an integer starting at 1 meter. Stand continues outside the road verge: Indicates whether the lupine stand continued (Yes) or not (No) outside the road verge. Stand density: Density of the lupine stand given as one in four possible categories: single plant, sparse 90% (lupines covered more than 90% of the stand surface).Stands position: Position of the lupine stand in the road verge. The stand could be positioned in: side slope, back slope, and both side and back slopes. ID verification stretch: Indicates the identity of the verification stretch on which the lupine stand was observed. Stand detected with car: Indicates whether the lupine stand observed during the survey by foot was also detected during the survey by car (Yes) or if it was missed during the survey by car (No). Speed (km/h): Indicates the speed of the car along the verification stretches during the survey by car. Observe that speed of the surveying vehicle was only registered during the first two (2021, 2022) years of the study.
