South African District Health Barometer Health Facilities

This dataset indicates the locations of health facilities located in South Africa. Included in this dataset are the locations of 593 health facilities of the 759 listed in the 2019/2020 District Health Barometer (DHB) health indicator dataset provided by the Health Systems Trust (HST). Only 593 facilities were utilised as the other 166 did not have geographic coordinate systems attributed to them. The facilities included in the dataset are based on those included in Department of Health Information Systems (DHIS); District Hospital, Military Hospital, National Central Hospital, Private Hospital, Provincial Tertiary Hospital, Regional Hospital, Specialised Chronic Hospital, Specialised Hospital, Specialised Orthopedic Hospital, Specialised Psychiatric Hospital, Specialised TB Hospital, Step Down Facility and Ward, filtered for facilities open within the latest financial year. Although this list includes several private sector and not-for-profit facilities, the DHIS is not considered to include comprehensive private sector data and not all facilities included in this list may report all data elements. This dataset was originally published by the Health Systems Trust and has been republished by SAEON as a shapefile.
