The yellowhorn tree (Xanthoceras sorbifolium), which is adapted to harsh environments, produces seed oil rich in valuable fatty acids, particularly nervonic acid. To explore the genetic factors underlying environmental adaptation and fatty acid biosynthesis in this species, a haplotype-resolved chromosome-scale yellowhorn genome is assembled. Comparative genomics identifies several expanded gene families in the yellowhorn genome.
