We use NGS of 16S and ITS1 to investigate whether logging and fire severity strongly influences soil bacterial and fungal community compositions, high-intensity fire negatively impacts soil microbial biodiversity and abundance and if the impacts of logging and fire severity on soil microbes extend into the subsoil (20-30 cm depth). Our research highlights microbial taxa associated with ecosystem processes important for the effective regeneration of plant communities post-disturbance and emphasises the importance of moderate severity burning for maintaining diversity and abundance of the soil microbiome.
