The CITADEL_GIS_Workspace file is the main workspace for viewing all of the elements included in the geo-spatial analyses. When downloaded together with the accompanying folders, everything should load automatically and be available for immediate use. Alternatively, one can download only the necessary files from the data package. Note: the software used was QGIS and all layers are compatible with the latest releases until 3.22.The GIS package encompasses all of the data with which the geo-spatial analyses were conducted for the dissertation. The accompanying folders located in the CITADEL GIS DATA folder include: 1. the USGS_25MeterDTM folder with the USGS 25-Meter Digital Terrain Model raw data, as well as calculated slope and re-projections for two different coordinate systems; 2. the LocationsOFCastles_Monasteries_Towns folder with all historical maps with their associated metadata that were downloaded from the David Rumsey Map Collection, all geo-referenced maps as tif. files as well; 3. the Historical_Maps_Georeferenced Folder with the X and Y coordinates for all locations mentioned in the dissertation as well as those that served as Ground Control Points (GCPs) for geo-referencing the historical maps; 4. the GeoSpatialAnalyses Folder with all buffers, Delauney calculations, hillshades, Least Cost Paths, Viewshed, and Voronoi calculations; 5.the Historical_Territories_Lakes_Roads folder with all outlines of territories, lakes, and roads based upon the geo-referenced maps.
