This dataset contains GC/MS and GC/IRMS datafiles of lipid fractions derived from a diverse assortment of cultured freshwater and marine cyanobacteria. Briefly, total lipids were extracted from cyanobacterial cultures which were grown using isotopically-characterized carbon dioxide gas; these lipids were separated into fractions using column chromatography. The resulting fractions were analyzed via both GC/MS and GC/IRMS in order to yield insights on the identities and isotopic compositions of the cyanobacterial lipids. A portion of the total lipids were subjected to catalytic hydrogenation to convert polar molecules to their reduced hydrocarbon counterparts; these resulting lipids were separated into fractions using column chromatography and were analyzed as described above.
