Ethical and Social Issues in Translating Epigenetics into Antenatal Care - Final Report

This report shares the findings from an interdisciplinary research project that explored the ethical and social dimensions of translating epigenetics into pregnancy care in Australia. Our findings demonstrate that translation is not yet happening in any systematic way in antenatal care in Australia. Indeed, there is a significant gap in understanding how and when to best translate epigenetic ideas in a way that optimises both health and social equity in the contexts of pre-conception and antenatal care. This study identified an important opportunity to anticipate health and social equity implications and make recommendations for potential future translations of epigenetic evidence in pregnancy care.
