CCTV是我国的中央电视台，于1958年正式成立开始播报新闻。自1982年9月1日起，中共中央明确规定重要新闻首先在《新闻联播》发布，节目宗旨为“宣传党和政府的声音，传播天下大事”，由此奠定了《新闻联播》作为官方新闻发布渠道的重要地位。目前，《新闻联播》是中国收视率最高、影响力最大的电视新闻栏目，被称为“中国政坛的风向标”。  《新闻联播》于1978年1月1日起每天19:00在中央电视台综合频道、中央电视台新闻频道直播，同时各省级卫视进行转播，内容涵盖政治、经济、科技、社会、军事、外交、文化、体育等多个方面。其运用了高度程式化的编排风格，从播出顺序来看，依次为时政报道、常规报道、国内简讯、国际简讯，四大版块虽偶有调整，但总体维持着次序的稳定。一般时长为精准的30分钟，若当天发生重大或突发事件，则会加长时间。截至目前，最长一次是在十八大闭幕后的2012年11月15日，当天的节目时间延长为124分钟。2018年两会期间，《新闻联播》每天时长均超过30分钟，最长达73分钟。

China Central Television (CCTV), China's national broadcaster, was officially established and began news reporting in 1958. Starting from September 1, 1982, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China explicitly stipulated that major news should first be broadcast on Xinwen Lianbo. The program's mission is to "disseminate the voices of the Party and the government and report global events", thus establishing its pivotal status as an official news release channel. Currently, Xinwen Lianbo is the TV news program with the highest viewership and greatest influence in China, and is known as the "barometer of China's political arena".

Xinwen Lianbo has been broadcast live at 19:00 daily on CCTV-1 (Comprehensive Channel) and CCTV-13 (News Channel) since January 1, 1978, and is simultaneously rebroadcast by all provincial satellite TV channels. Its coverage spans multiple fields including politics, economy, technology, society, military affairs, diplomacy, culture and sports. The program adopts a highly stylized programming format: in terms of broadcast order, it follows the sequence of political coverage, regular reports, domestic news briefs and international news briefs. Although the four sections are occasionally adjusted, their overall order remains stable. Typically, the program lasts exactly 30 minutes; in the event of major or breaking news on a given day, its runtime will be extended. To date, the longest broadcast occurred on November 15, 2012, shortly after the conclusion of the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, with the program lasting 124 minutes that day. During the 2018 Two Sessions, Xinwen Lianbo's daily runtime exceeded 30 minutes, reaching a maximum of 73 minutes.
