Stream Routes with Kittle Numbers and Mile Measures

This layer can be used for mapping stream features in Minnesota and for identifying their Kittle Numbers and mile measures. Linear and point events from tabular sources can be displayed along the stream routes using <i> ESRI Linear Referencing</i> tools. To access mile measures along stream routes, follow the steps below: <b>1) Add the Linear Referencing command to an ArcMap document</b>: In ArcMap, choose: <i>Customize: Customize Mode: Commands Tab</i>. Choose <b>Linear Referencing</b> from <i>Categories</i> (left panel) and choose <b>Identify Route Locations</b> from <i>Commands</i> (right panel). Drag the command icon to the end of an <u>existing</u> toolbar in the ArcMap display. <b>2) Access mile measures along a stream route:</b> Click on the <b>Identify Route Locations</b> icon from the toolbar; click on a stream from the <i>Stream Routes with Kittle Numbers and Mile Measures </i> layer. A pop-up window will show the stream name, kittle number, mile measure of the location that you clicked on, and the minimum and maximum measures of the stream route. (Note that measures are based on the digitized stream feature and may not exactly match real-world conditions.) <b>Displaying linear and point events on the stream route framework</b> This stream route framework supports the display of linear and point events through ESRI linear referencing tools. Linear events represent linear locations/stretches along streams (e.g., designated stream segments, reaches, canoe routes, etc.). Point events represent single point locations along streams (e.g., dams, gauges, sampling stations, etc.) Events are stored as tabular data with a stream ID (Kittle Number) and FromMeasure/ToMeasure. (Only FromMeasures are needed for point events.) Users may display their own linear and point events along the stream route framework. The first step is to create a table that specifies the Kittle Number and mile measures that correspond to each linear/point event.
