There are Holocene pollen data from core SZ24 on the Taihu coast. The sediment core SZ24 was collected from the coastal plain in the southern Taihu region in 2025. Drilling was carried out by the Fourth Geological Team of the Jiangsu Provincial Geological Survey using mechanical drilling techniques. Core SZ24 is located at 120°32′18.46″E, 30°52′29.12″N, at an elevation of 1.61 m. Samples from core SZ24 were selected for pollen analysis at intervals of approximately 0.2–0.5 m, yielding a total of 60 samples from the upper 20 m. Sample pretreatment generally followed the method of Faegri and Iversen (1992). Samples were treated sequentially with 15% HCl, 38% HF, 15% NaOH, and 15% HCl. After that, the sample residues were sieved through an 8 μm sieve. Pollen identification was carried out under a Nikon optical microscope in the laboratory. Pollen grains were generally observed at a magnification of 400×. Identification was based primarily on published papers or books in China (Academia Sinica, 1976; Academia Sinica, 1979; Tang, 2016). Most samples contained more than 400 pollen grains. However, some samples had very low pollen concentrations, with fewer than 300 grains counted, and were therefore excluded from further analysis.
