16S rRNA whole-organism microbiome sequencing for Tubifex tubifex and Planorbella pilsbyri exposed to environmentally relevant microplastics

This dataset contains 16S whole-organism sequencing data for the freshwater oligochaete Tubifex tubifex and the freshwater gastropod Planorbella pilsbryi. Both species were exposed to microplastics, including polystyrene microbeads (45 micrometers) and polyethylene terephthalate microfibers (100 micrometers), under two conditions (pristine and biofouled). Tubifex tubifex was exposed in sediment at concentrations of 0, 100, and 1000 particles per gram dry weight, while Planorbella pilsbryi was exposed in water at concentrations of 0, 100, and 1000 particles per milliliter. The dataset can be used to examine how microplastics affect host-associated bacterial communities.
