Dataset for: Open Access in Institutional Rankings

This dataset contains the data documentation and the computational notebook (R/Quarto) underlying an analysis of five global ranking systems that incorporate open access indicators: CWTS Leiden Ranking (Traditional and Open Edition, 2025), SCImago Institutions Ranking 2025, COKI Open Access Dashboard 2025, and QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2025. The computational notebook generates UpSet plots showing which German institutions appear in which combinations of rankings; calculates a Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA)-style “preference score” for each country and ranking system; produces choropleth maps of the geographical distribution of universities per ranking system; and compares PP(OA) values of the two Leiden Ranking editions at the level of individual institutions and fields to assess shifts in rank positions, both globally and for Germany.
