These datasets contain yield potential (Yp) (maize and wheat) computed with two crop simulation models (WOFOST and LINTUL) for the entire world. A global weather database was divided into 856 training and 12,808 testing sites. We predicted Yp at the testing sites using five main methods (eight methods when considering within-method variants): (1) weather interpolation followed by simulation; (2) nearest neighbor interpolation; (3) thin plate spline interpolation (a) with or (b) without covariates; (4) random forest based meta-models with (a) climatic or (b) bioclimatic variables; and (5) weather generation from (a) climate data and (b) interpolated climate data, followed by simulation.
