Transcriptomic field survey of hexaploid bread wheat (Triticum aestivum) infected with Puccinia triticina and Blumeria graminis

The goal of the study was to investigate the transcriptomic response of susceptible wheat cultivars to leaf rust (Puccinia triticina) and powdery mildew (Blumeria graminis f.sp. tritici) mixed infection, and to identify possible pathogen effector targets in the host. Five different wheat cultivars (three resistant and two suceptible ones) were infected in the field with a mixture of rust and mildew isolates. Flag leaves from infected and uninfected wheat plants were collected at late infection stage for RNA-Seq.
